REHABILITATION MINI-GAMES
The project I graduated with. Mini-games for the physical rehabilitation of patients with Parkinson's and other neurological conditions.
It's what I'm proudest of from my degree.
Where it came from
From watching a relative fight through their exercises every day: repetitive, monotonous, with nothing pushing you to do them. The question was whether they could be made bearable without ceasing to be therapy.
They're not casual games in a lab coat
Each mini-game was designed from scratch on top of medical literature and checked with specialists. The exercise leads; the mechanic gets built on top of it.
That means range of motion, repetition and speed are set by the therapist, not by whatever ends up being most fun. A game that rewards moving badly is worse than no game.

What it took
Months of research before writing a line: physical therapy, neurological conditions, and sitting down with doctors to be told that what I'd come up with wasn't going to work.
The thesis covers the medical research, the design, the implementation, the testing and the results.
